As you may be aware, the Department of Education and Skills are in the process of introducing a new language curriculum to cover the teaching of both Irish and English in primary schools. We have already had a full day’s training last March and as a follow up we are having a training session with two Advisors from the Professional Development Service for Teachers on Wednesday 18th of October.
To facilitate this training, all the children will be going home at 2.00p.m. on Wednesday 18th October. The teachers will remain in school until approximately 4.30p.m. The Board of Management granted permission for one such meeting each term, over the course of the year. We will inform you well in advance when other events may be scheduled.
The Board of Management also decided to change the floor coverings, from carpet to Marmoleum, in all main classrooms over the course of this academic year. It is hoped that the Infant and first class rooms may be completed over the Hallowe’en break.
Finally, for now, I want to wish Fr La all the best as he takes on his new role as Prior of Lough Derg. I also welcome Fr Owen J McEneaney as our new Parish Priest and we all look forward to working with him into the future.
Fr La has always been a great supporter of Scoil Éanna and is well known to every child in the school. He has always managed to navigate very testing questions and comments, particularly from the Junior Infants at the start of year Mass! He played a key role in the preparation of children from our school community for the sacraments every year and managed to know all of them by name ahead of First Confession and Communion. He will be missed, but I’m confident he will not be a stranger!
